My biggest struggles in tech: lack of resources and too much advice

If there's one thing I've learned on my journey in tech so far, it's that learning to code is not the only challenge you have to deal with.

For me, my struggles have mainly been in two areas: lack of resources and the overwhelming amount of advice you get from people online.

Let me explain.

1. Trying to learn with limited resources

This has been one of my biggest challenges since I started learning tech.

I've talked about how I started learning website development with a borrowed laptop that would literally lag and even shock me sometimes. And honestly, not having the right resources can make your learning journey more difficult than it needs to be.

It's frustrating because you know what you want to do, but the tools you have can limit how far you can go at that particular moment.

Nevertheless, I've kept learning and trying to make the most of what I have.

2. Too many opinions about what you should learn

This is another struggle I think a lot of beginners can relate to.

Imagine you're learning something, putting in the effort, and even documenting your progress online. Then someone comes along and tells you that what you're learning is no longer relevant.

According to them, you're wasting your time, and you should be learning something else instead.

Now you're left wondering: am I actually learning something useful, or am I wasting my time?

I experienced this while learning Java.

I was learning Java and documenting my progress when someone told me to learn Spring Boot instead.

And I'm thinking, if I don't understand Java properly yet, how am I supposed to understand Spring Boot?

Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with learning new technologies or listening to advice from more experienced developers. In fact, their advice can be valuable.

But I also believe there's a difference between guiding someone and making them feel like the time they're spending learning the fundamentals is a waste.

As a beginner, you're already trying to understand so many things. Hearing conflicting opinions about what you should learn next can make the journey even more confusing.

One person tells you to learn one technology. Another says it's outdated. Someone else introduces a completely different tool, and suddenly, you're questioning the learning path you were already following.

Sometimes, you just need the time and space to understand what you're learning before jumping into something else.
