After completing the 30-day visibility challenge with Adeife Adeoye, I didn't stop creating content. I kept showing up, posting videos, and sharing what I knew.
During the challenge, I had connected with someone, and we usually engaged with each other's posts. We weren't close or anything like that. We had simply connected through the challenge.
So, I continued creating content, and one day, she reached out to me.
She asked if I always edited my videos that way or if it had something to do with the phone I was using. She also asked what phone I used to record my videos.
I told her.
Then she said something I honestly wasn't expecting. She told me she would like to help me get a new phone.
Omo, I was shocked!
I mean, what? How? Why?
Before I could even process what was happening, she asked for my account number. I sent it to her, and shortly after, I received an alert of ₦200,000 from someone I had never met before.
And the funny part? She was Ghanaian.
Imagine someone you don't know personally seeing your content online and deciding to support you financially because they believe in what you're doing.
I was honestly amazed.
At the time, though, ₦200,000 wasn't enough to get the kind of new phone I wanted. So, instead of spending the money on a phone immediately, I decided to invest in other tools that would improve my content creation setup.
I bought an LED light so I could record videos at night and a tripod stand to make recording easier.
After that, I still had some money left. Eventually, I was able to save up and add to what she had given me, and I got a new phone.
But when I think about the experience, I realise that my content creation journey didn't start when I got that money or bought those tools.
It started long before then.
I remember recording videos with my Android phone, placing a small mirror in front of me, and sitting beside the window to get natural light.
No fancy setup. No professional studio. Just me trying to create content with what I had.
Even the microphone I used was a basic one that cost about ₦10,000, and it sometimes produced noise while I was recording.
But I kept creating.
And somewhere along the way, someone noticed.
